GARDAI fear a fresh wave of tit-for-tat gangland killings following the brutal assassination last night of a man suspected of murdering a lieutenant of gangland boss, 'The Don'.
Aidan Byrne was gunned down at around 8.45pm as he sat in the passenger seat of a car in Drumalee Avenue off the North Circular Road.
Byrne, who was only recently released from prison, was shot at least six times and died from gunshot wounds to the chest.
It's suspected he was whacked as part of an ongoing deadly feud with 'The Don' - Dublin's most-notorious crime godfather.
Last year Byrne was arrested while on his way to clip the Don's righthand man, Wayne McNally. McNally was later killed by an unknown assassin.
