A PERFECT ‘10

Here's to another year of top gaming titles

WITH Christmas out of the way and the busiest time of the year for video games behind us, we can sit back and look forward to what 2010 has to offer.

Without a doubt, 2009 was a massive year for the industry, with huge titles including Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, FIFA 10, New Super Mario Bros and of course the all-conquering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

2010 promises to be another bumper year for all things gaming with some top titles on the way.

Here, we pick out the titles GameZone is most looking forward to.

Heavy Rain

FILM NOIR: Heavy Rain looks dark and deadlyPlenty of speculation has surrounded Heavy Rain, the PS3 game being developed by French studio, Quantic Dream.

The game's director, David Cage, has stated that Heavy Rain would be "a very dark film noir thriller with mature themes".

The dynamic narrative unfolds through the players actions.

If it plays anywhere as good as the screenshots look then we're in for a real treat.

Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar is taking us back to the Wild West in Red Dead Redemption, the sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver. Open-world gameplay means players can roam free around towns, prairies and mountain passes ensuring there'll be gun fights a plenty.

Mass Effect 2

The Microsoft exclusive is set to be released at the end of the month on Windows and Xbox 360 and takes players back into the darkest reaches of space. The improved combat system and improved AI promises to build on the majestic gameplay of the 2008 original.

BioShock 2

2K games created a masterpiece with BioShock, one of the games of 2007. Now the follow-up looks set to enthral us all once again. The action looks to be more intense than before, with Big Daddy using his full arsenal of powers and weapons to overcome
foes. Expect some sublime graphics too.

God of War III

BRING IT ON: The latest God of War offeringOne of the most important franchises to ever hit our consoles is God of War.

The third instalment looks to be the most anticipated title for the year.

The number of enemies onscreen has been increased to 50 as opposed to the maximum of 15 in previous instalments.

Come on Kratos!

Alan Wake

The game is a 'psychological action thriller' where players assume the role of Alan Wake who relocates to a small town only for his wife to mysteriously disappear. The enemies, called dark forces in-game, are sensitive to light, encouraging the player to take advantage of environment light sources and placing significant emphasis on the flashlight as a primary weapon.

Final Fantasy 13

In Final Fantasy XIII, due for release in March, players will embark on a journey through the cityworld of Cocoon and the outerworld of Pulse. Enemies will be integrated into the environment, like Final Fantasy XII but now battles will take place in a battle screen, separate from the main playing world.
