IRISH company Hostelworld.com, which is the world's market leader, had their own awards last week for the 23,000 hostels and budget accommodation worldwide on their site and took in a million votes.
The Portuguese city of Lisbon proved to yet again be the jewel in the crown for budget-conscious travellers across the world when it claimed five of the top 10 spots.
For the second year running Lisbon's Travellers House Hostel was announced as the best hostel in the world.
Top Irish hostel was the recently renovated Rowan Tree Hostel in Ennis, followed by last year's number one Aille River Hostel in Doolin with third place going to Kinlay House Hostel Galway.
FERRY NICE DEAL
IRISH Ferries are already encouraging France-bound holidaymakers to book early for the summer.
Travellers who book early can take advantage of leadin fares from €99 one way for car and driver, and the price includes a reserved seat on board.

BUSMAN'S HOLIDAY
KILKENNY tour company Kavanagh Travel was the first Irish firm to take a coach into Russia last year, on the way visiting 10 countries in 18 days.
It was so popular they will be repeating the tour in 2010.
