THE Commandos were drawn to this pub by the smell of tomato and basil. It turned out there was a small restaurant area at the back. We were bemused to see a baby's high chair in the lounge - some people start early.
It turned out there was a family with two young children having a meal. The old Commando said this brought him back to his own childhood when his granny used to bring him to the pub and give him a sup of her pint. But these kids were having minerals.
The very efficient and attentive young barman offered to bring us a meal but we explained were on a liquid diet. Our pints were a bit pricey at €4 but we guessed that was to pay for the flashy décor - vivid red walls, arty lighting in metal boxes on the walls, wooden Venetian blinds and mirrors everywhere.
The gas fire was a nice touch and the toilets were clean though the lighting was a bit dim.
