THE picnic tables outside this place looked very inviting. But the Old Commando had the sniffles so we went inside.
Despite the red walls, the air in the bar was blue - with effing and blinding. This was very much a man zone, complete with GAA memorabilia, pictures of the races and football on three flatscreen TVs.
There were no chairs in this masculine den - just wooden stools, leatherette-covered benches and tables.
The backroom was like a youth club, and we presume the young guys and girls playing pool and listening to loud dance music had
shown ID.
The young barman served us our pints promptly and cheerfully for a very decent €3.65. The toilets were clean but we were a bit
disappointed by the graffiti in the bathroom - it wasn't quite up to Listowel's literary standards.
